Feral Childe

Feral Childe is a womenswear clothing line designed by bi-coastal design duo Moriah Carlson (Brooklyn, NY) and Alice Wu (Oakland, CA). Both come from a fine arts background: painting (MFA, New York Studio School) and sculpture (MFA, Yale School of Art) respectively. Originating as an art project, Feral Childe has successfully evolved into seasonal wholesale collections while maintaining the artistic spirit which earned them a loyal and international audience.  Since its first wholesale collection in Fall 2006, Feral Childe has created original textile prints for each season and continues to represent the collections with projects incorporating collage, film, performance, photography and music. Studios are in both Brooklyn and Oakland, with all production done in New York’s historic Garment Center.
Feral Childe Fall 2011 ORCHESTRA explores the world of sound through vivid textile prints derived from abstract musical scores and structural details as visual puns. The prints are composed by layering the ink drawings, watercolors, and paper collages that Alice and Moriah created side by side in their Brooklyn studio. The spirit of their combined images infuses each piece in the collection with life: the garments are fluid, ever-changing, never static; to be activated by the wearer. This season’s wintry palette ranges from icy whites, blues and grays to the warmth of deep browns, reds, and oranges. Textured organic cotton, Tencel and hemp blends are combined with surprise elements such as pleated remnant nylon mesh, silk taffeta, printed organza and double georgette.
